The Chongqing Rail Transit (CRT) is a metro system in Chongqing and was the only one in western China until the arrival of Chengdu Metro. As of 2010, it consisted of one operating line, a first of its kind monorail in China known as Line 2, which runs through three administrative districts in the central city, (Yuzhong, Jiulongpo, and Dadukou). The metro serves transportation in the city's main business and entertainment downtown areas. Line 2's track length is 19.15 km.
CRT is a unique metro system in China. Due to Chongqing's surrounding geography as a hilly city, Line 2 is for the most part elevated above streets, although a 2.2 km section is underground, including 3 of its 18 stations in the Jeifangbei downtown and Daping downtown areas in Yuzhong District. The system also employs vehicles with strong climbing capabilities and can transport 30,000 passengers per hour per direction. In 2009, Line 2 delivered 140 million rides.Whole system of Chongqing Rail Transit is consist of 18 lines.
