Solitary Beauty Peak (Duxiu Feng) is located in downtown area of Guilin city. This place was named after the famous poet Yan Yanzhi of the Southern Dynasty. There is a natural stone chamber located in the east of the hill and it is believed to be the study used by Yan Yanzhi when he was the Magistrate of Guilin 1,500 years ago.

The peak provides a good view of the town below. It has been called the "pillar of the Southern Sky." In the haze of dawn or the glow of sunset the peak is purple or gold. A climb up the 306 stone steps to the top is rewarded by a panoramic view of the city. The view from here shows clearly the many limestone pinnacles that rise out of the flat land that surrounds them.

Solitary Beauty Peak stands in solitary grace in the center of the ancient Jingjiang Princely Mansion . Towering abruptly from the ground with an elevation of 216 meters, it is said to be the Sky-Supporting Pillar in the South of China . During the Southern dynasty (420-589), some 1500 years ago, Yan Yanzhi, governor of Guilin , wrote "none can surpass this solitary peak in beauty" and it is therefore called Solitary Beauty Peak .

At the foot of the peak are Dushu (Study) Rock, Taiping (Peace) Rock and Yueya (Crescent) Pond. On the east side of the hill there are many inscriptions from the Qing dynasty, such as "Southern Sky-supporting Pillar" and "Purple Gown and Golden Belt." A flight of 396 stone steps leads from the west foot of the hill up to the top, where one has a commanding a panoramic view of the whole city and all the surrounding mountains. This peak is in the Grounds of the Guangxi Normal College . Visitors can enter after 2:00 pm. You can reach Solitary Beauty Hill from a bus which leaves from outside the train station or it's a 45 min walk from the center the city.

Features of Solitary Beauty Peak

Solitary Beauty Peak is located in the ancient Mansion of Prince Jingjiang, in the center of Guilin City, Guangxi Province, with an area of 6,100 square meters (about 1.5 acres). Towering 216 meters (about 709 feet) above the sea level and 66 meters (about 217 feet) above the ground, this peak has been a major scenic site in Guilin since ancient times and is renowned as the 'Sky-Supporting Pillar in the South'. Composed of limestone from the shallow sea sediment biochemistry about 0.35 billion years ago, the peak got its name from the famous line in Southern Dynasty (420-589) literature, 'none can surpass this solitary peak in beauty'. When bathed in the dawn sunshine or afterglow, the peak seems to be wearing a purple gown and a golden belt, which is the origin of its other name 'Purple Golden Hill'.

A stone stair of 306 steps will lead you to the top of the peak, where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Guilin City. Here, you will also find the famous Solitary Beauty Pavilion, which is 7 meters (about 23 feet) high, has 2 floors and is supported by several red pillars.

How to get Solitary Beauty Peak

Take bus no.2, 10, 11, 14 or 18, 21, 25, 28, 30, 203, 206 and get off at Jiefang Bridge Station in Jiefang East Road.
